Beyond Safety: The Power of The Archway

If you know me, you know how much I love this place. (My teenager would call me a sweat although I remain unclear on if that’s a good thing.)

I’m not just talking about the walls, the offices, or the history—though 50 years is certainly something to celebrate. I’m talking about the pure, fierce, gritty heart that has defined us for five decades. For years, we’ve been known as SafeHaven, and that name represented the vital first step for every victim who crossed our threshold. It was a promise: You are safe here.

But the truth is, the work you support has grown wider and deeper than any single name. It is time for our name to catch up to our soul.

That’s why, on launching our 50th anniversary year, we are stepping into our next chapter as The Archway. And I couldn't be more excited about the reason why.

For a long time, the name SafeHaven focused on the crisis—the urgent need for safety and shelter. And while that vital, life-saving work remains the core of everything we do, our mission doesn't end at safety; it begins there.

The work this community has helped us build extends far beyond Tarrant County. We're already standing on a national stage, driving research, innovation, conversations, and systems change. We are looking at the foundational barriers that keep victims trapped, and we are developing the tools and knowledge to tear them down, everywhere.

The challenge in this three-part mission – keeping victims safe, holding offenders accountable, and strengthening the system – was that no single word truly captured everything.

When we chose The Archway, we weren’t looking for something fleeting or trendy. We were looking for structure, permanence, and promise. Think about an archway. What does it do?

  1. It Holds Immense Weight: It is engineered to be stable and strong, reflecting the structure and support we offer victims every day.
  2. It Creates a Path: It signals passage, movement, and the way forward. It’s a powerful visual reminder that there is always a way beyond violence, and we are there to help everyone find it.
  3. It’s Clear and Bold: This name gives us the clarity we need to serve, to lead, and to grow our impact for the next 50 years without confusion. It solidifies us as the only organization locally providing the full continuum of care for those in Tarrant County in addition to impacting systems nationwide.

This rebrand is our love letter to the future. It’s a statement of ambition that matches the passion of our staff, the courage of victims, the growth possible in offenders, the willingness of the system to learn and change, and the tremendous faith of our donors.

Our doors are still open, our hotline is still running (same number!), and our commitment to every victim seeking help remains absolute. We are still your local agency, only now, we’re wearing a name that truly shows the rest of the world the groundbreaking, essential work we are leading nationwide.

Thank you for helping us grow mighty. I can’t wait to see where The Archway leads us next!

Onward!

Dr. Kathryn Jacob, LMSW
